:: History ::
Telly & Kelly have been busy with music for quite a few years now.
They've met eachother on a school where you can learn how to handle a (professional)
studio. Telly's only occupation at that moment was Dj-ing, and Kelly
was making music at his home with an Amiga. So they met, and on some
day Kelly came with a tape. He made a track, and asked Telly for some
feedback. He listened to it, and it was exactly what he had in mind.
Thus came the idea of making music together with the 2 of them. Telly's
Dj-name is Dj Active and they made up Kelly's Dj-name at school.
They thought of Dj Evil (which became Dj Fanatic later).
They went experimenting with those names and suddenly they thought of
Evil Activities. That's the way their name was born. Immediately
they went back to rebuild the track that Telly have heared from Kelly,
and later on they had created another track that was very likewise.
Only having a 3 sec. sampler, the guys wanted to work with longer vocal
samples; almost nobody had done that yet. So it was neccesary for them
getting a studio. Together they decided lending 'some' money at the
bank. It was a hell of a risk, because you'll waste a lot of money if
you don't succeed getting into the scene. But what the heck, you can't
make a omelet without breaking a few eggs... right? Eventually they
took the risk, because they were certain that they wouldn't fail.
Telly & Kelly quit school to go to another school, and even that
one turned out to nothing. So the only option left was experimenting,
and learning how to know their way around with all that fancy equipment
:) Just for trying they made 4 new tracks, letting some other people
hear it. 1 of those guys knew somebody that probably could get it on
vinyl. At that time, Evil Activities existed just only 4 months. So
that guy payed them a visit, listened to the tracks shortly, and then
said: "Yeah, this sounds good enough, let's release it !"
So their first record-deal was born: Evil Activities on Dark
& Evil Records at Planet Hooligan. Shortly after that, their
record was released, but their name wasn't on the label. No artistname,
no titles, just a lousy internetadress of the recordlabel. So they didn't
even have to hasitate quitting that label. Fortunately, they had a titlecontract
(so after 1 record they could leave if they want), and away they went !!!
So, the guys were all back by the beginning again. They made another 4 new tracks,
under which "Darkness at noon" and "What's
inside me?" and went to see Paul Elstak , because
they would like to have it on Rotterdam Records. From time to
time, they couldn't reach the man; every now and then he wasn't there
or he forgot his telephone, and after a while they became pretty fed
up with it. Then they met Jeroen Streunding (Dj Neophyte) at
the Free Record Shop, and fortunately Telly had all the stuff with him.
They gave Jeroen the white label of their record from Dark & Evil
Records, and a DAT-tape with the new tracks. They asked him to
listen to it, and pass it on to Paul. A few days later they got a phonecall
from Jeroen, and it scared them like shit: the tracks were approved,
but with a few minor adjustments. Happy as they were, they went back
to the studio to improve their tracks, and letting Jeroen hear it, when
he was at the Mid-town store. He liked "Darkness at noon"
the most, only the second part could be improved. The other tracks were
just fine as they were. Telly & Kelly remade the second part over
and over again, up to about 6 times, and after a while, they just had
it. For one more time, they made 1 more melody and said to eachother:
"If this one STILL isn't going to be approved... Then let's quit."
They were THAT tired of it. But suddenly Jeroen thought it was great!
That's the same melody that's on the record now. Later on, they understood
it; if you're a new talent, you have to come with some real good work,
or else nobody will pay any attention to it. They've really had to do
some hard work for achieving this. And that's the story how Evil
Activities entered the hardcore scene...
"Darkness at noon" should have been an A1-track,
but Paul liked "Hyper" more, so it became A2.
You could say that "Darkness at noon"
was in fact THE track that made Evil Activities more famous.
Later on, Neophyte Records 3 appeared, and was also very well received by the crowd...
